Life’s Journey

On October 20, 1976, Katie Gainey Booher and William Booher welcomed their son, William Jamal Booher into the world. At an early age, William showed a love for learning and creating new things. His educational journey began at La Petite Academy and then on to Lanier and Dowling Middle Schools. During this time William was awarded numerous academic awards that exemplified his outstanding achievements in math and science. These achievements led him to further explore his love for science at Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions from freshman through junior years of high school. William completed his high school career at Westbury High School finishing in the top five percent of his class.

In 1994, William entered his beloved Yale University. During William’s tenure at Yale University, he took on many leadership roles that cultivated his path to the many career roles he embraced later in life. In 1998 William became an alumnus of Yale University, with a Bachelor of Science in History of Science and Medicine. Some of the accolades include Class of 1998 Secretary, YAA Ex-officio Delegate, 15th Reunion Co-Chair, YAA Delegate, Class of 1998 Treasure, and Founder of the Class Council. His time at Yale created lasting memories and bonds that will forever be cherished. After leaving Yale, William entered Columbia University, School of Business in New York City.

William’s career path as a Strategic Planner afforded him numerous opportunities to lead, grow, travel, and mentor. William held several positions that included vice president of Wells Fargo in North Carolina, J.P. Morgan Chase, Booz Allen, and Hyundai Capital America. In 2020 William decided to enter the political arena and ran for the District 13 Texas Senate representative seat.

William always had a desire to acquire more and achieve excellence through breaking barriers and climbing the corporate ladder.

William loved life and it was evident through the ways he nurtured his family, friends, and community.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Zelma and Hannibal Gainey; and paternal grandparents Thelma and William John Henry Booher.
