Life’s Journey
On March 25 th 1940, God blessed the late Johnnie and Gertrude Sims with a beautiful baby girl and
named her Vivian. She attended and received her education from school at E H Henry High School in
Eagle Lake Texas.
She later moved to Houston, Texas and worked as a cashier for Pilgrims Cleaners for many years.
Her career path took her in a different direction. She began working for Southwest Memorial in the
physical therapy department where she later retired. Her love for people and the need to help others
she went to nursing assistant school where she worked for many years and received several awards in
patient care.
She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. A.C. Collins of Rising Start Baptist
Church. She later united with New Pleasant Green Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.E.
Gibbs where she served as a door keeper.
In 1977 she united with Christian Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Herbert
Stroman currently under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Kenneth W. Stroman.
She has been an active member of Christian Hope Baptist Church until her health declined.
She served and worked with the Senior Mission Auxiliary, The Voices of Hope Choir and a faithful
Sunday school member.
She leaves to cherish her memories her loving son, Quenton Sims Sr, her precious grandson Quenton
Sims Jr., a brother Marvin Sims Sr all of Houston, Texas, three sister- in- laws and a host of nieces and
nephews.
She is preceded in death by her Mother Gertrude Sims, her Father Johnnie Sims,
Sisters, Ella Austin, Jennie B. Hemphill, Annie Powell, Debra Sims, Joyce Sims and Ardalia Jones.
