Life’s Journey

Susie Ann Dawson-Austin was born in Oakland, CA on January 17, 1950. She was the baby of five girls born to the late Milton Dawson and Willie Lee Dawson. She grew up on the West End/Heights in Houston. She attended Attucks Middle School before finishing at Worthing High School in Sunnyside. Susie was a member of North Main Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Godfrey where she accepted Christ at an early age.

In 1967 she married Fred Holmes Sr. She was later blessed with three beautiful boys: Fred Holmes Jr., Elton Venters and Joshua Holmes. Susie married Charlie Austin in 1978 who gracefully stepped in and raised the handsome trio. Finally, she met and married her current husband Thornton Turner in 2017.

Susie always had a heart for helping others which prompted her to be become a Texas State Certified foster parent for 3 years! She found joy as she fostered many children, providing them with a safe, nurturing, loving family for a temporary period. She always showed love and support as she welcomed them into her home.

She loved family gatherings and a good party as she was always the life of the party! She enjoyed shopping and cooking her fabulous meals.She loved being around her family and friends, especially her grandchildren! They were always the light of her life!

Preceding her in death; her father Milton Dawson and mother Willie Lee Dawson, her sisters Mona Brannon, Willie Mae Dawson, Ruby Fuller, and brothers Woodrow Dawson and Milton Dawson Jr., nephews Warren Brannon, Thomas White, Daniel R. Watts, and grandson Joshua Holmes Jr.

Susie leaves to cherish her memories her husband Thornton Turner, Children: Fred Holmes (Melissa), Elton Venters (LaTonya), Joshua Holmes, Sisters: Delores Hayes, Sherrie Robinson, Brenda Dawson- McMillan, Grandchildren: Tony Woodard aka Tony the Tiger, Nicholas Rodas, Joshua Holmes Jr. aka JJ, Destiny Venters aka Chuckie Cheese, Kayla Venters aka Kay Kay and Hannah Holmes aka Tweety, Julian Holmes aka Pop-Squali, Hayden Holmes aka Poky and Christian Holmes aka Chris Rock, Great-granddaughter: K’Lani Sky Roberson (Teacakes) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
