Life’s Journey

On November 3, 1964, a baby girl was born to the late Dorothy Mae Durgan and Arthur Callis who was
named Sarah Denise Durgan . The youngest girl of eight children born to Dorothy Mae Durgan was known as “Neicey” to loved ones and friends. Neicey was educated in the Bay City Independent School District in her early years. She graduated from Brazosport High School in 1982. Sarah was employed with Unico as a custodial supervisor for most of her adult life . Sarah Durgan married Willie Puryear in her early adult life. Together , they lovingly raised their son, Laborris White.

Sarah and her beloved brother , Gregory, joined Abundant Life Church together under the leadership of Apostle Harold Jackson. Sarah loved discussing the latest topics and catching up with loved ones and friends on the phone and through social media. Sarah loved to laugh and watch her favorite shows with visitors. Sarah deeply missed her siblings and often reminisced on old memories . On Tuesday , January 9th, 2024, Sarah Denise Durgan Puryear passed away peacefully at her residence, reuniting with her siblings and mother in Heaven.

Sarah Puryear is preceded in death by her mother and father, Dorothy Mae Durgan and Arthur Lee Callis, 6 brothers; Clifford Durgan, Hubert Durgan, Robert Durgan, Carl Durgan, Gregory Durgan, and Larry Callis; two sisters, LaVerne Baugh and Lena Durgan.

Sarah’s memory will be celebrated by her son , Laborris White, two grandchildren, Achilles White and Athena White; one sister Debra Callis; one brother, Lee Callis; devoted friend , Christine Edwards; lifelong friend , Latana Minton; loving niece, Francesca Williams ; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
