Life’s Journey
Robert Lee Green, Sr. was born on July 21, 1935, to the union of Shelly and Shirley Gatson Green. Robert grew up in the Live Oak/Buckner’s Prairie/Cedar Lane communities. Robert attended school in Van Vleck. Brother Green accepted Christ as his Savior early and became a member of the Berean Baptist Church. Later, he joined Bethel Baptist Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend L.C. Cunningham, Sr. After his passing, Reverend L.C. Cunningham, Jr. led him, and he was a loyal and faithful member until his health declined. Robert married the love of his life of fifty-three years, Margaret Woods Green, on May 29, 1955. Robert worked as a construction worker for Local Union 111 until he retired. While working for Local Union 111, he also managed Penn Funeral Home. When Penn Funeral Home closed, Robert saw a need in the community.
He then purchased a property and developed his business under Green’s Mortuary. He was a very kind and dependable man who would lend a helping hand wherever needed and was also a member of the Coastal Funeral Directors and Morticians Association. He managed Green’s Mortuary until he retired.
