Continuing The Celebration For

Willie Ruth Burton was born on August 23, 1926 to KJ Mitchell Sr and Paralee Harrell Mitchell. She was the oldest out of six children. She had three brothers and two sisters. Geneva DeWalt (Dewey), KJ Mitchell Jr (Delores), Leon Mitchell (Vinnie Ruth), Odessa Bowens (Uriel), and Melvin Mitchell (Earlene). All siblings and parents preceded her in death. She graduated from Jack Yates High School and continued her education with a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University. She married Joe Milton Burton (Deceased) and with this union, they had one child, Leslie Burton Greathouse. She later had another child Jerryl Burton (Deceased). She worked as a teacher at BC Elmore High School in Houston, Texas, an Administrative Assistant for Foleys’ and Riverside National Bank before becoming an Executive Assistant for Texaco which is now Chevron where she retired. She had seven grandchildren, Sean Burton, William Burton (Deceased), Sherryl Burton, Sonya Grear (Lakeith), Micheal Dismuke, Antina Jones (Jerald), and Cresida Haywood, fourteen great grandchildren, seventeen great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
