Life’s Journey

Mr. Monroe Wilson Jr. peacefully transitioned from Grace to Glory on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025. Mr. Monroe Wilson Jr. was born September 12th, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Monroe Wilson Sr. and Amanda Smith.

He united in holy matrimony to Henrietta Wilson and was married for over 57 years. He was a faithful member of Progressive New Hope Baptist Church and later moved his membership to The Crossing Church, where he has been a member since the late 80’s. In his early age, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Porter. Thereafter, he served in the United States Army. During the stint of his service, he received The National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960; Vietnam Service Medal and The Purple Heart. His dates of service were July 26, 1967, through November 3, 1969.

He was Honorably Discharge. After being discharged from the military, he embarked on a career working in the oilfield industry for many years. Thereafter, in his retirement he continued working as a distributor for Forward Times Newspaper until his passing.

Mr. Monroe Wilson Jr. was preceded in death by his wife Henrietta, his father Monroe Wilson Sr., his mother Amanda Colley, his brother Leonard “Skinner” Wilson and his son Henry Davis. Left in God’s care to cherish his love and memories and fulfill his legacy is Roy Davis and Ronald Smith; Daughters: Sherelyn Johnson, Gloria Smith and Lashonda Dixon; Brothers; John Wilson, Benny Colley (Sandra), Don Colley (Shelly) and Larry Colley; Sisters: Delores Lockhart, Arlene Facey, Rose Elliot, Gloria Cook and Ayne Davis (Thomas); Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren and a host or relatives and friends.
