Life’s Journey

Maria Luisa Sanchez was born December 24, 1959 and passed away on July 25, 2023 at the age of 63 from Huntington’s disease (chorea). She went by the name Mary Lou and was the third youngest of 15 siblings born to Raymond and Trinidad Colunga. Mary Lou was a mother of four children, Jackie, September, Hugo and Valentin and grandmother of six, Jeremy , Rubi, Jasmine, Andrew, Layla and Vincent. She always loved holidays and one of her favorite holidays was Halloween. She made her own outfits every year and loved seeing everyone’s reactions. One year she dressed as Mama from Mamas Family. She loved handing out candy to children. Christmas was also a big holiday and she would bring us together to decorate our tree and decorate the walls with chains made by hand, out of construction paper. At Easter we would help color and fill in cascarones. Sometimes we didn’t like it and sometimes we loved it. We loved the effort that mom made in these times together. Mom’s favorite foods were pupusas, especially the cheese ones, enchiladas, and tamales. She also loved her snacks. Her favorite color was royal blue and her favorite animal was a lion. She loved lions. And you can’t forget Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley was her man. She loved all his music and movies. She will be missed by many.
