Life’s Journey

Matriarch, loving Grandmother and devout Catholic, Maria Aurora Santos was born in Cuba in 1933 to her beloved parents, Juan, and Victoria. Courageously, she traveled alone to New York as a young woman to be with her husband, Luis. It was there she gave birth to three boys – twins’ Luis and Juan, followed by baby Jose. With a strength that nobody could imagine, she raised her sons in upper Manhattan, and they would continue to be the light of her life to the very end.
The embodiment of elegance throughout her life, Maria was deeply involved in her community. She cared for her neighbor’s children as though they were her own, worked as seamstress, and was active in her church. Always placing others before herself, she was an innovator, artist and culinarian – introducing trends before they were “trendy,” designing beautiful clothing and drapery, and serving up the most delicious meals to not only her family but anyone in need. Later in life, she found immense joy in helping raise her treasured grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her parents and her three wonderful siblings: Mercedes, Jose and Francisca. She will be mourned forever by her three boys, adoring daughter-in-law, beloved grandchildren and numerous people from all walks of life who loved and cherished Maria just as much her family.
We know that her family eagerly awaits her arrival into the Eternal Kingdom of Heaven. May God’s Grace shine upon Maria in her transition.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4
