Life’s Journey

A Time to Be Born:

Linda Ruth was the fourth of four children born on November 5, 1941 in Jasper, Texas to Curtis Weldon and Essie Kay Darrett.

A Time to Learn:

Linda was educated at J.H. Rowe Elementary, E. O. Smith Junior High School, and Phyllis Wheatley High School.  She attended Texas Southern University where she was a member of the Law Society and later crowned Queen.

A Time to Marry:

Linda was married to Louis D. Johnson who proceeded her in death on October 22,2019.

A Time for Reverence to God:

At an early age, Linda accepted Christ and joined the family church, Bethlehem Baptist Church in Jasper, Texas.  She was baptized at Sagemont Baptist Church, in Houston, TX March 8, 1987.

A Time to Work:

Linda worked at IBM @ NASA for 20 years as a Senior Administrative Specialist and upon retirement worked for the Houston Police Department as the Assistant to the Chief of Police for an additional 21 years.  Upon retirement, Linda received a proclamation from former Mayor Annise Parker and was honored with Linda D. Johnson Day, July 30,2010.

A Time of Homegoing:

Linda departed this life on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Methodist Hospital.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Wayland and Essie Kay Darrett, grandparents, Fannie and Issac Darrett and Vinnie and Gilbert Land, siblings Willie Louise McHenry, Tommy Jean Butler, and Curtis Ray Darrett, son Edward LeRoy Kelly Jr, granddaughter Nakitia LaShell (Keisha), niece Tasha, and Nephew Larry Charles.

To Cherish Precious Memories:

Son- Shadrick Damone Bogany (Vernice) 

Grandchildren, Nakitia, Lisa, Edward LeRoy III, Megan, Crystal, Precious, and Charles.  Great Grandchildren KaDeriyous, KaShauna, Khrystopher, Jaylynn, Christian, Crosby, Baby Bale, Ezra, Cutler, Priya, and Clover

Great Great Grandchildren – Trinity, Treasure, Kaysen, and Karson

Special People – Harper and Helen Lee, Evie, Deandria, Jean, Cheryl, Elaine, Vera, Georgia, Annette, Gloria, and Al and D

Linda’s unique one-of-a-kind personality, fearless flare for life, sweet inner spirit and deeply compassionate care and concern for others gained her the forever and endless love of family and friends along her path. She was a remarkable soul and will be truly missed.  God, we extend this beautiful soul to you to love and keep until we see her again in your external dwelling.  May she rest in peace and rejoice in God’s presence.
