Life’s Journey

The celebration of life for Grace Paulette Booker Jackson began on December 9, 1960, when she was born to the late Jerome and Dorothy L. Booker in Houston, Texas, at the old Saint Elizabeth Hospital on Lyons Avenue. As the second child of her parents, Grace entered this world with a joy, exuberance, tenacity, courage, and charm that were divinely woven into her soul by the Lord Jesus Christ and nurtured under the loving guidance of her parents. These remarkable traits remained with her throughout her life.

Grace accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, allowing the Lord to shape and guide her throughout her journey. Her faith and relationship with the Lord were central to her life.

Grace graduated from Kashmere Senior High School in Houston, Texas. She then pursued higher education, initially enrolling at Sam Houston State University before transferring to Texas Southern University. At TSU, she earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology.

For the past 15 years, Grace dedicated her professional life to Northwest Assistance Ministries, where she served as the Senior Director of the Meals on Wheels program. She regarded this work as a true ministry and a calling from the Lord, fulfilling the biblical ministry of helps by serving others with compassion and dedication.

Travel was another passion instilled in her by her mother. In 1978, while still in high school, Grace traveled to Europe through the American Institute for Foreign Study. She lived with a French family in France for nearly a month and also visited Switzerland and England during the trip. Inspired by this experience, she took a second high school job at Gordon’s Jewelry Store to save for another trip the following year, which took her to Spain and Greece. Throughout her life, Grace continued to explore the world, traveling both internationally and domestically.
On February 28, 1993, Grace entered into holy matrimony with Mr. Melvin Keith Jackson and was blessed with the honor of being a stepmother to Morgan Jackson. Though their union eventually ended, Grace and Melvin remained friends.

Grace leaves behind cherished memories with her ex-husband of 8 years, Melvin; her bonus daughter, Morghan; her siblings, Dorothy Elizabeth and Dwight; her godchildren, aunties, cousins, co-workers, and a host of dear friends.

Grace’s unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life. She often declared, “I can’t do anything without the Lord,” and her soul was truly anchored in Him. Her final words on this earth were, “I want to go home.” The Lord honored her request and lovingly welcomed His faithful servant home.

Hallelujah! Blessed be the name of the Lord.
