Life’s Journey

Felix Carlos Harding Johnson was born to Charles (Pappy) Johnson Jr. and Patricia June Harding Johnson. He was the 1st of 4 children. Felix was preceded in death by his parents.

Felix attended North Nashville High School in Nashville TN where he excelled in academics and athletics. He was Captain of the football team his senior year and graduated at the top of his class.

Felix graduated from Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later became a licensed professional engineer in the State of Texas.

Felix professed his faith in Christ at an early age. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Houston where he was ordained an Elder where he faithfully served in many areas with his devoted wife, Joycelyn, mainly as Clerk of Session.

His service to the youth included Cub Master and Scout Master, with the Boy Scouts of America. He also coached youth baseball and football for many years.

Felix’s first professional job was in Oak Ridge Tennessee’s K-25 gaseous diffusion plant enriching uranium 235. He worked in the Operations Division programming the IBM 1800 mainframe to control the enrichment process. Later Felix worked for General Motors in Indianapolis, Indiana and the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Power Generation Division, where he worked in an engineering specialist group servicing nuclear and fossil power plants, chemical and refinery plants around the world.


Felix retired from the City of Houston in 2011 after 29 plus years as a City Official (Energy Official). Felix had expertise and professionalism as well as  conservation efforts in managing a large portfolio of electricity, natural gas and liquid fuels. Which reduced the city’s energy expenditure millions of dollars over his tenure. Felix was active in the Association of Houston Retired Municipal Employees and kept in touch with former co-workers.

The City Of Houston proclaimed July 29, 2011 as Felix C. Johnson day. 
Felix married Joycelyn Daniels Johnson on August 3, 2002.
After retirement, Felix enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Felix leaves to cherish his memory and honor of his life his devoted lovely wife Joycelyn Johnson, three sisters, Carmen Johnson, Franklin TN, and Janet Driver and Sabrina Gresham, Nashville, TN, one brother, Charles Johnson (Carmen) Indianapolis IN. , four sons, Brandon Johnson, Isadore Haynes, Adrian Haynes, and Chris Daniels of Houston, TX, one daughter, Angie Daniels, Missouri City, TX, two nephews, one niece, Indianapolis IN, four grandchildren, one great- grandson, Houston, TX, and 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews and last but not least his life long best friend Harold Herod.

The Lord blessed Felix Carlos with a long life as well as blessed his family with a multitude of cherished memories despite growing up in Tennessee oppressed by the government sanctioned racial Jim Crow segregation and discrimination laws.
