Life’s Journey

Dwayne Louis “Chucky” Cavaness was born on 19 February 1961 to Leon Cavaness and Agnes Belle Cavaness in Corpus Christi, TX. He graduated in 1979 from Roy Miller High School where he was recognized as a star basketball athlete. He also attended Texas and (Kingsville). With his first love, a beautiful daughter, whom he showered with love, Dalexis Cavaness Flowers was born in 1984. He began his employment as a Client Specialist at the Corpus Christi State School.

Followed by being an orderly at Spohn Hospital Shoreline. In addition, he worked as a Lead Event Specialist at B&T Rents and Butler Signature Events. After relocating to Missouri City, TX, he then tried his hand as a stocker at a local discount neighborhood store. Dwayne was known as a one of a kind, the best of all time master chef and French fry specialist. His nieces and nephews could always benefit from a good ole “Uncle Chucky” original meal. He was always willing no matter the time of day or night to provide a hot home cooked meal for his family.

He would make sure you had a gourmet plate and a place to rest your head. Dwayne spent most of his life caring for his family. He was known for his quiet yet observant demeanor, and his loving, caring, and humble spirit. Although quiet in nature, he never met a stranger. He was the type of man that would give you the shirt off his back. He loved spending time with his family, specifically taking care of his mother, his pride and joy.

He adored his nieces and nephews, always providing laughs as a natural jokester. “Right or Wrong?!” He also enjoyed watching professional football/basketball games and listening to and watching music videos. His first and only granddaughter Daschlyn Flowers was born on St. Patrick’s Day in 2017. He called her “Lucky” and visited her daily during her stay in the NICU. She stole his heart. He enjoyed attending church with both his daughter and granddaughter. Dwayne accepted Christ at an early age and rededicated his life while battling his illness. In dealing with his illness, he was  surrounded by supporting family, especially his eldest sister Dedra. On 13 May 2024, ourbeloved Chucky gained his wings.

He was loved and cherished by many and will be greatly missed. Dwayne is proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents Herdie Trotter and Annie B. Hopkins, his maternal grandparents Rosetta Henderson and Otis Edwards, his father Leon Cavaness, and his eldest brothers David Cavaness, Darence Lee “Butchie” Cavaness, Sr., his eldest nephew DeQuincy Williams and great nephew Sincere Ellison.
