Life’s Journey

On January 15, 1937 God loaned Levi and Mary Mayfield a third little light to their family, and they named her Connie B. Along with her siblings, Travis, Elizabeth, Linda, Royce, and Debra, Connie grew up in the little town of Brady, Texas. Connie attended Brady High School and went on to earn a degree in education from Prairie View University. While there, she met Royland Humphrey, and they married in 1957. Royland and Connie brought their own little lights into the world, Lisa and Anthony. Connie went on to teach in several different Texas cities, before settling with her family in Houston, Texas and working for Houston Independent School District. Connie would later retire from Kandy Stripe Academy.

Being the daughter of a minister, Connie was baptized at an early age. After moving to Houston, Connie joined Crestmont Park United Methodist Church. She then went on to become a founding member of Gracepoint Christian Center, where Rev. John Hancock is the pastor.

Connie is survived by two children: Lisa Humphrey-Stonum, and Anthony Humphrey (Vanessa Humphrey), two sisters: Linda Hall and Debra Sephus, seven grandchildren: Keira Stonum- Wesley (Allen Wesley), Keith Stonum II, Ashley Evans (Joaquin Evans), Autumn Berneking (Luke Berneking), Xavier Humphrey, Caleb Osborne (Tyra Osborne), and Candice Osborne, ten great- grandchildren: Kylen Wesley, Karsen Wesley, Karrington Wesley, Kameron Wesley, Thyme Luna Mia Evans, Liam James Berneking, Lila Ann Berneking, Asia Osborne, Kade Moultry, and Caylani Wiley, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Connie had four very special friends, Fannie Madry (our bonus mom), Geneva Hayes, Jessie Mosley, and Audrey Williams.

After 86 years here on earth, God was ready for his light to be returned, and he called her home on November 22, 2023.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents: Levi and Mary Mayfield, her brother: Travis Johnson, her sister: Elizabeth McGowan, her brother: Royce Mayfield, and her two nieces: Tracey Baldwin, and Wanda Peterson.

I know that you are at peace, no longer burdened by the pains of the physical realm. I know, I will see you in my dreams. You are forever in my heart. I'll miss our chats. I'm sad I didn't get to cook for you one last time but I'm happy that I came when I did. I love you! Watch over us! Tell Uncle Roy Hello!
