Life’s Journey
One of God’s greatest gifts, Billy Vonerice Murphy, was born September 30, 1962. Those who loved him referred to him as Von. Von was born in Jasper, TX to a beautiful mother, Mary Ashley and father, William Murphy. Von grew up in Houston, TX and graduated from Smiley High School in 1981. He went on to work with Union Pacific for over 15 years but his passion in life was being one of the best barbers in Houston. You could find Von in the shop, in the yard, or laughing with someone helping them smile brighter. If you knew him, he’s likely fed you some of the best barbeque you’ve had.
Von was also very passionate about family, his craftmanship, and his appearance and style. He always wanted to look his finest and provide the best. His proudest moments were given by his children, Dominic Milton, Billy Murphy, Jr., Vonerice Murphy, VonTigra Gibbs, Tehla Gibbs, Klarc Murphy, and bonus children Tiffany White and Jaevien London. His love grew even deeper with the birth of his grandchildren: Jalen Gibbs (VonTigra), Kaia Murphy (Vonerice), Bill’Yon Murphy (Billy Jr.), Jru Rachal (Tehla), Briley Murphy (Billy Jr.), Tatum and Cade (Tiffany).
His life was made whole with the union between him and his wife, Terra.
He was called to rest on December 26, 2024. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Mary Ashley. He leaves to cherish his memory a host of family and friends including his wife Terra and sister Tanya Cooper. He also leaves his children: Dominic, Billy Jr., Vonerice, Von Tigra, Tehla, Klarc, Tiffany and Jaevien along with his grandchildren: Jalen, Kaia, Bill’Yon, Jru, Briley, Tatum, and Cade. He leaves his sister Tanya ,niece Shavonte Brown and nephew Gregory Johnson.He also leaves three sister-in-laws: Denise Boggess (Michael), Vickey Wiley (Billy) and Gayle Harris (Cedric) and two brother-in-laws: Calvin Butler (Sandra) and Leroyal Butler. He also leaves behind close friends Mutei, Cole, Ken, Ricky, Peck and host of close friends throughout Houston.
