Life’s Journey
Stacy John Newman was born in Chicago, IL., May 11, 1975, the second child, and first-born son
of John Nettles Newman Jr. and Syretheal Jeffers Suttles.
Stacy spent part of his childhood in the Midwest, where he attended elementary and middle
school, before moving with his family to San Jose California, where he attended and graduated
high school. Life was not always easy for Stacy but he grew up in a family environment of strong
values and love. Family and community circled him, believed in him, and coached him. There
was always so much good in him.
Stacy was brought up as a family man who learned and employed the ideals he was taught from
his parents. He started his early work career with his dad and was taught by his Uncle Jerry
Newman to box, wrestle, play football and baseball. Even as a child, Stacy was a courageous,
observant, compassionate leader with a keen interest in and understanding of how the world
worked. These characteristics, which were evident early on in his life, developed and served
him well as he grew to adulthood. In high school, Stacy was an extrovert with a brilliant smile,
who could easily be described as the life of the party. Yet he was exceedingly disciplined. He
was a strong and accomplished athlete, and a star basketball player, deeply respected by his
school community. In and out of high school, Stacy had a way of captivating others.
With his charismatic demeanor, he never met a stranger. After high school, Stacy attended San
Jose City College, before eventually moving to Houston, Texas.
In 2000, Stacy met the love of his life, Amber, in Indiana at the homegoing ceremony of a
family member. They stayed in touch afterward, and saw each other again the next year when
his maternal grandmother passed. Only months after his return to Texas, Stacy sent for Amber
and their two daughters to move to Houston, where they made their home.
On December 26, 2004, Amber and Stacy were married in an intimate ceremony at his mother’s
home. They shared a deep and permanent love and together they built a large, loving family.
Over their near twenty-year union, together they raised seven beautiful children. To Amber,
Stacy was the smartest, most caring, thoughtful man she had ever met, and he remained so
their entire marriage. Stacy was a loving, attentive husband, who treated his wife like
a queen and worked to make sure that her dreams were always fulfilled. This was made
possible through the development of an impressive professional career which began when
Stacy worked as a semi conduction technician at Applied Materials, in San Jose with his father.
Stacy then segued to work in the oil business, alongside his stepfather Elliot. His determination
and acumen were evident almost immediately. He took to the work well, dug in, and learned
quickly.
In 2011, Stacy was approached about a partnership to launch a company based on his ability to
observe, analyze, and improve processes to be more effective and efficient. In 2014, he took
over majority ownership of the company. Stacy’s younger brother Jeremy joined him, and
together they grew the company to be the successful enterprise it is today. Stacy’s brother-in-
law, Marlon, joined them in 2015 and worked to develop this true family business. Over the
years, Stacy proved himself to be incredibly business-savvy. As hard working as Stacy was, he
was also incredibly loving, and enjoyed life. Stacy derived intense joy from family gatherings,
parties, fishing, and traveling. He also had a love for old school cars.
Stacy was an amazingly dedicated and attentive father. Stacy was funny, patient and he could
never stay upset, even if he tried. He provided not only a secure and comfortable living for his
family but realizing he had so much knowledge to pass on to his children, offered guidance and
wisdom meant to cultivate their own drive and ambition. Stacy was able to take the lessons
learned from his family and others, including his “Ainte” Cleo and Uncle Shawn, and pass them
on to his children. His long talks about life with them left an indelible mark on their hearts.
Stacy is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert Jeffers and Sarah Jeffers, and
his paternal grandparents, Ida Newman and John Newman Sr., his stepsister Sarita Suttles, and
nieces, Marisha Dockery and Ava Marie Newman. He is survived by his devoted wife Amber
Newman and their children Ayanna, Alexis, Stacy Jr., Sean, Adrian, Aidan, and Savannah.
He is also survived by his parents, Syretheal Suttles (Elliott) and John Newman Jr. (Wanda
Stewart); his sister Anjanette S. Newman Dockery (Marlon), brother Jeremy D. Newman
(Nikki), and sister Khadijah A. Barrow Newman; stepsister Elise Nikki Johnson, stepbrothers
John “Train” Suttles and James Suttles. As well, Stacy leaves behind to mourn, a host of aunts,
uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws to whom he simply meant the world.
From capturing the hearts and spirit of would be rowdy, angry teens, and turning them into
allies – to earning money selling worms to the local fishermen to save up for his first pair of
Jordans, Stacy learned to be self-sufficient, and to give from his heart. He was a large
contributor to Little City and other philanthropic organizations, not for the tax write off, but
because his heart was that big. Stacy John Newman always put more into the world than he
took from it, often carrying the weight of it on those strong, loving shoulders.
God wanted to give this loving man’s heart a rest. He was called home to His Kingdom, on
Sunday, June 30, 2024.
